Chrome Plating Car, Motorbike, Scooter and Boat Parts is a very different process to plating conventional everyday parts. Parts such as coat hooks and household light fittings get a quick dip to plate them chrome. The Chrome plating process when rechroming old parts involves a lot of individual due care and attention for each and every part, this is why we often get a “This looks better then new” reaction from our customers when they see the end result of their parts. Parts which are commercially chromed are normally manufactured and plated straight from the press so they are not polished in detail or prepped before the chrome plating process and if left outside in the rain they would begin to rust in a matter of days, depending on the base metal which is usually mild steel. Where the base Material is Brass, Stainless Steel or Aluminium the parts do not rust. This is why boat parts are usually made from Brass material as they are always exposed to salty sea water which is very corrosive on metal parts.
Here at chromefix when we are preparing a part for Chrome plating whether it's a household part or a part for a Car we always polish the part to a mirror finish before the Chrome Plating process begins. When we are rechroming parts especially for Cars, Motorbikes, Scooters and Boat parts we have a thorough Chrome Plating process, we use two layers of copper followed by Nickel and Chrome, we also allow enough time in the tanks to get enough plating layer on, this both gives the parts a deep chrome finish and durability against the elements when outdoors.
We can plate on to all types of metal including Mild steel, Stainless Steel, Brass, Die cast and yes even Aluminium. We have a dedicated pre-treatment plant for Aluminium which enables us to achieve high quality plating on Aluminium. There are not many plating companies which can plate on Aluminium as it is often quite difficult to plate.
